Metamorphoses

Benjamin Koch

Taking inspiration from Ovid’s Metamorphoses alongside family heirlooms, photographs and obscure objects, Ben Koch’s work is an exploration in reimagining the tangible and familial through a process of deconstruction and re-assemblage.

In this work Ben’s paper paintings explores materiality and texture through a response to the documentary. Culled from an archive of early 20th century portrait photography these works seize upon the visual nature of primary sources through a process of sculpting and shaping of pulp made from paper documents. In further explorations heirloom rugs form the material for his work in lush textured portraiture.
