Meet Choreographer, Frances Barker.
Frances is developing a new work for STIR all about dining alone.

Frances says…

“Growing up in Southern Louisiana my whole life; food is communal. A Sunday dinner is never your average Sunday dinner, food is always in abundance. It’s where we gather to share, laugh, argue and socialize with friends and family. I wanted to do the reverse and put a microscope on dining alone. I do it on occasion and find it relaxing.

Like public speaking, eating alone can be a terrifying experience. All those eyes zoning in on you, curious as to why you are eating alone. I want to invite the audience into the internal experience of dining alone. Exploring the private, tender, sweet and ridiculous moments that we have all gone through during isolation. Dining alone is a way to get that much desired alone time in an age of hyper-connectivity.”

In collaboration with Chef Jeremy Connor of Cellar Salt Co. and original music by T’Ray Brooks.

 

 

Frances Barker is a Louisiana-based dancer/choreographer/teacher.  She is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a B.F.A. in Performing Arts and has performed and presented work at Cite’ des Arts, Esprit de Coeur, American College Dance Festival, Dance Planet Festival, Dallas, TX, Disney Performing Arts OnStage, Orlando, FL, Festival International de Louisiane, American Dance Festival, Durham, NC,  Louisiana Dance Festival and UL-Lafayette Performing Arts Department’s production of State of La Danse.
