Film Night returns to Basin Arts featuring Athens, Ga: Inside/Out

Athens, GA: Inside/Out is a documentary film made in 1987 about the mid-1980s music scene in Athens, Georgia, U.S. The film has become a period piece of sorts, capturing the emergence of the local music scene that grew to have national and international prominence.

The film features interviews and concert footage of local bands who were a part of the scene at the time of the documentation as well as local legends R.E.M., Pylon, and The B-52’s. It also features an interview with famous folk artist Howard Finster as visual arts played a pivotal role in shaping the music scene and overall creative culture of the city in the 80s.

Join us for an engaging look back in the not so distant past of a small southern community that used creative collaboration to make it’s mark.
